Welcome to WaASP!
WaASP is a group of
Worcestershire parents who have adult sons and daughters with
Asperger's Syndrome. Our aim is to lobby for the effective
provision of appropriate services for adults with Asperger's.
Because Asperger Syndrome is
neither a physical nor a learning disability, it often fails to
trigger support systems and benefits.
Worcestershire Health and Social Service Authorities do not
currently offer a specialised service for adults with Asperger's.
A planned and managed approach to Asperger's can reduce the cost
to society, which currently faces the cost of ignoring the
condition.
Carers – most frequently,
parents – grow older and environmental factors change. Less than 10%
of AS sufferers obtain lasting employment: and their position can
deteriorate. Appropriate help and understanding give real benefits
to society, as an interesting and unusual individual is supported
and allowed to make his or her special contribution.
WaASP aims to encourage Worcestershire authorities, to
provide appropriate services.
Membership is open to everyone in
Worcestershire who has adult offspring with Asperger's.
How you can help us:
N.I.C.E (National Institute for
Health and Clinical Excellence) is an independent
organisation responsible for providing national guidance on
promoting good health and preventing and treating ill health.
They're asking for suggestions from the public for what the public
believe they should be providing guidance on. Why don't you let
them know that you believe they should do more for Aspergers
Syndrome? Tell them here:
